ISSA Urban U14, U16 second round takes shape
The opening matches of the second round in the ISSA Urban U14 and U16 schoolboy football competitions are set to take place today, with several early title contenders ready to take to the field.
In the ISSA Urban Burger King U14 competition, defending champions Kingston College (KC) will welcome fierce rivals Calabar to North Street as they look to open Group Two with a win.
KC qualified for the second round following a dominant showing in the first round, where they closed out a perfect run of six wins in a row, scoring 52 goals along the way, without conceding once this season.
The only school to have not conceded this season, KC will enter the fixture as heavy favourites and will put their perfect record on the line when they face the boys from Red Hills Road.
Calabar booked their spot in the second round as one of the next best third-placed teams as they finished behind Hillel Academy and Campion College in their first round group.
Calabar have scored an impressive 21 goals this season, but their defensive record of 17 conceded will be a cause for concern.
Wolmer’s Boys, one of the heavy title contenders this season, will also be in action when they welcome Eltham High to the Mico University field in Group One action.
Wolmer’s boast the second-best scoring record of 41 goals, second only to KC, and the joint-second best defensive record having only conceded once, again, second only to KC.
The boys from Heroes Circle will put their perfect record to the test against Eltham, who finished second in the first round group behind group winners St Catherine High.
Eltham recorded a run of four wins, one draw and one loss throughout the first round, and will be confident they can hand the Wolmerians their first defeat of the season.
