Champion Bubbler in perfect position to pounce on George HoSang Trophy field
Perfectly drawn at post-position 11, stalking-sprinter CHAMPION BUBBLER returns to her happy hunting ground, five furlongs straight, at which only a sub-59.0 will deny the seven-year-old United States-bred mare in Saturday’s George HoSang Trophy.
CHAMPION BUBBLER sealed a hat-trick of wins at the trip last season, May 3, upsetting PACK PLAYS in the grade-one Reggae Trophy, before being brought back to Earth by two-time Mouttet Mile runner-up LEGACY ISLE, who humbled her in 57.2 on May 31.
Outsped on the round course in her next three starts, CHAMPION BUBBLER returned to show her preference for the straight chute, losing a November duel to PRINCE AMAAN by a short head in 58.3.
Approximately $3 million in earnings won CHAMPION BUBBLER an ambitious spot in December’s grade-one Mouttet Mile in which she finished 12th among the backmarkers, running just for the heck of it.
Reverting to the straight course to open her 2026 season, January 3, CHAMPION BUBBLER closed best-of-the-rest behind ZULU WARRIOR’s 58.0, finishing her race in 59.0, four and three-quarter lengths behind the winner.
In her last run, two weeks after chasing home a mean ZULU WARRIOR, CHAMPION BUBBLER was second-best at six furlongs behind Mouttet Mile-favourite NAUTICAL STAR, who finished ninth in the US$300,000 event after straightening sixth in a hot pace set by LEGACY ISLE being tracked by winner RIDEALLDAY.
Dealt a hand in which the speedsters are all drawn to her inside, ANOTHER ONE, UNRULY MO, BULLETPROFCOFFEE, and COMMANDER Z, running on heavier ground, will be gunning for the lead in mid-track.
However, drawn at post-position 11, CHAMPION BUBBLER has the track bias to her advantage, which should have her closing fast and deadly inside the final half-furlong.
Spencer Chung has retained Tevin Foster to partner CHAMPION BUBBLER at 119lb, replacing claiming-rider Tajay Suckoo, showing his confidence in the jock, who moved tack to Assiniboia Downs in Canada after losing the 2024 title race by one winner to Raddesh Roman.
