Brown’s all-round effort lifts the Saints closer to 50-over quarter-finals
National player Carlos Brown showed his true mettle with the bat and then played a key role with the ball to help St Catherine CC to their third win in the Jamaica Cricket Association All-Island limited overs competition, following a convincing 183-run win over Lucas at Chedwin Park at the weekend.
Brown’s half-century was instrumental in helping the Saints to 289 for six in their 50 overs before he returned to bag three wickets to restrict Lucas to 106 all out in 25.2 overs.
The right-hander first batted 114 balls while scoring 86 runs, which included 10 fours. Captain Peat Salmon made a cameo performance towards the backend of the innings with a brilliant unbeaten 76, which included eight fours and four sixes.
Brown then returned to bag three wickets for 26 runs in helping to blow away Lucas with schoolboy spinner Vitel Lawes weighing in with three wickets for 30 runs, despite 40 from Kenroy Williams.
St Catherine will next face Pool Three leaders Police in the final preliminary-round encounter, and a win for the Saints would virtually seal a place in the quarter-finals.
Elsewhere, Police remained unbeaten after brushing aside St Thomas in their encounter at Springfield. The lawmen chalked up a mammoth 398 all out, with Jahmarie Martin leading the way with a brilliant 125. Lesmond Lewis chipped in with 68 and Shamarie Lindo 62 against four wickets for 76 runs from pacer Keno Wallace.

Parnell then returned to grab five wickets, with Abhijai Mansingh picking up four wickets to restrict Portland to 109 all out in 21 overs.
At Sabina Park, pacers Andre Dennis and Gordon Bryan took three wickets each in dismissing Kingston for 227 runs, despite 98 runs from opener Javaughn Buchanan.
