Big names to turn out for respective clubs in JCA 50 overs

Some of the island’s top cricketers, including Test players Nkrumah Bonner and Marquino Mindley, are expected to be on show today as the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) All Island Limited Overs Tournament bowls off with 10 matches across the island.

Defending champions Jamaica Defence Force will open their campaign away to Portland at Swift River with the army men set to bank on their national players, Tevin Gilzene and Gordon Bryan, to lead their charge.

This year will see the staging of the clubs and parish association structure where teams have been divided into four county zones and will play in a single round-robin format dubbed the preliminary stage and thereafter teams will be engaged in a knockout format until the winners are decided.

The Cornwall zone comprises teams, such as Trelawny, St James, Hanover, Westmoreland and St Elizabeth. The Middlesex zone will feature St Ann, St Mary, St Catherine Cricket Association, Manchester and Clarendon. The Surrey A zone will have the likes of St Thomas, Police, Kensington, Lucas, Boys’ Town, and St Catherine CC, while the Surrey B zone will comprise Portland, Melbourne, Kingston and St Andrew Cricket Association(KSACA), Kingston, JDF and The Mico University College .

In other opening round fixtures, national player Javelle Glenn is expected to lead a Melbourne side against KSACA while Jamaican fast bowler O J Shields is expected to spearhead a Kensington attack when they travel away to Police at Elletson Road.

Jamaica Scorpions batsman Carlos Brown and Oraine Williams are expected to lead a strong St Catherine Cricket club team against the highly fancied St Thomas side with Bonner at Chedwin Park. The Odean Brown-coached side will be missing Jeavor Royal, who is at the Caribbean Premier League with the St Lucia Kings franchise.

Other round-one fixtures will see St James going up against Mindley’s St Elizabeth at Jarrett Park, while Hanover will square off with Westmoreland at Elgin Town.

Over in Middlesex, Clarendon will welcome St Mary to Sir P’s Ova,l while Manchester will entertain St Catherine Cricket Association at French Park. Boys’ Town will go up against Lucas at Nelson Oval, while Kingston will square off with The Mico at Sabina Park.
