Gang related killings double

Statistics from the police high command have shown that gang related killings have more than doubled in the last two years.



Last year, 1,574 murders were committed and the police said 774 of these murders were gang related.



49 percent of all reported murders in the country last year were connected to gang violence.



This is a significant increase of the number of gang related crimes committed in previous years.



In 2006, 33 percent of reported murders were gang related while in 2005 only 19 percent of murders were gang related.
