Nomination day in Barbados

Approximately 68 candidates will be nominated today to contest next month’s general election.

Up to Friday 60 candidates representing the two major political parties, four from the People’s Empowerment Party and four independents, had made the deadline to pay in their US$125 deposit to the Treasury Department.

The ruling Barbados Labour Party (BLP) is making a bid for an unprecedented fourth term in office.

The BLP controlled 24 seats in the 30 members Parliament that was dissolved last week to pave the way for the January 15 election.
