OLGA NOW OVER CENTRAL CARIBBEAN
Sub-Tropical Storm Olga is now making landfall over eastern Hispaniola and is expected to continue westward closer to Jamaica.
At 1:00 p.m., the centre of Sub-Tropical Storm Olga was located near 18.5 degrees North, 68.4 degrees West. This is about 830 kilometers (515 miles) east of Morant Point, Jamaica, or 135 kilometers (85 miles) east of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Olga is now moving west-northwest at about 15 km/h (10 mph) but a return to a westward track is expected during the next 24 hours.
Maximum sustained winds remain near 75 km/h (45 mph), with higher gusts, while tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 445 km (275 miles) to the north and northeast of the centre.
Olga is forecast to continue moving close to southern Hispaniola today and tonight and begin affecting Jamaica’s weather by Wednesday morning as a weaker system. Periods of heavy rainfall and gusty winds, along with above-normal waves along the north coast, are likely on Wednesday afternoon, decreasing on Thursday.
Small craft operators should continue to pay special attention to subsequent Bulletins and are urged not to venture far from the mainland due to deteriorating conditions approaching from the east.
The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation and the next Bulletin will be issued at 5:00 p.m.
