Mona maintain unbeaten run in Manning Cup Zone E

Former champions Mona High eked out a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wolmer’s Boys to maintain their unbeaten run in the ISSA/WATA Manning Cup Zone E encounter at Mona yesterday.

The Craig Butler-coached Mona secured their eighth win of the season courtesy of a 65th minute own goal from a Wolmer’s defender following a set piece.

With the win, Mona, the Manning Cup champions in 2023, moved to 24 points with a game in hand over Calabar High who are also on 24 points.

Wolmer’s, who also have a game in hand, remain third in the zone with 15 points followed by Ascot on 10. In the group’s other game yesterday, Calabar whipped Ascot 8-0. Mona, Calabar and Wolmer’s have advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition. Meanwhile, in Zone D, St Catherine High defeated Campion College 6-0 to maintain their unbeaten run in this competition.

The Anthony Patrick-coached St Catherine, who have been having an outstanding season so far, lead the zone with maximum 27 points from their nine games. They are followed by Eltham High on 24, Campion College with 13 and Norman Manley High on nine. In the group’s other game yesterday Eltham blanked Norman Manley 4-0.

Over in Zone C, Jamaica College defeated Camperdown High 3-0 to move to the top of the standings with 23 points. They lead on goal difference ahead of St Andrew Technical. Vauxhall are third in the zone on 17 points followed by Camperdown on 12. In the zone’s other match yesterday, St Andrew Technical and Vauxhall played to a 1-1 draw.
