West Indies to open T20 World Cup against Papua New Guinea
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, slated for June 1-29, 2024, jointly hosted by the West Indies and the United States (US), will see 20 teams, including co-hosts, battling in 55 games for the prestigious ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title.
Group A features India, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and the US, while Group B comprises England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland, and Oman. Group C sees New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea, and Group D includes South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Netherlands, and Nepal. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eights stage.
The tournament kicks off with the US facing Canada at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas on June 1, followed by the West Indies taking on Papua New Guinea at the Guyana National Stadium on June 2. Notably, India and Pakistan will clash in a high-stakes encounter in New York on June 9 at a state-of-the-art 34,000-seat stadium in Nassau County.
The defending champions, England, commence their title defence against Scotland on June 4 in Barbados. The semi-finals are scheduled for June 26-27 in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago, with the final set for June 29 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
