Miller happy with Abu Dhabi coaching jaunt
JAMAICAN CRICKET coach Nikita Miller recently returned from the Middle East after finding himself on a new and exciting journey in the Abu Dhabi T10 league.
Miller was an assistant coach for the Delhi Bulls, where he joined a star-studded coaching staff that included veteran mentors Andy Flower, Grant Flower, and Azar Mahmood.
The venture marked the first time Miller was working outside the Caribbean in a high-performance environment. The transition was made smoother by the support and camaraderie within the coaching staff. Dwayne Bravo, a familiar face for Miller, played a pivotal role in bringing him into the fold.
“Dwayne Bravo reached out to me and asked if I was interested in taking up the role of assistant coach. I’m glad I took the job. It was an incredible experience, and I believe coaches in the Caribbean must seek opportunities like this to broaden their horizons,” said Miller.
One of the highlights of Miller’s stint in Abu Dhabi was the opportunity to work closely with Andy Flower, a renowned cricket coach. Miller admired Flower’s coaching style and his ability to handle players with big personalities.
“I learned a lot from Andy Flower, not just about the technical aspects of the game, but also about how to interact with players, especially those with strong personalities,” Miller said.
As a young coach, Miller expressed his gratitude for the chance to absorb valuable lessons from seasoned mentors.
“I’m hoping to take the knowledge I gained here on my coaching journey. Working with such experienced coaches has been an eye-opener, and I believe it will contribute significantly to my growth in the coaching world.”
The roster of players under Miller’s guidance was impressive, featuring international stars like Quinton De Kock from South Africa, James Vince from England, and West Indies players Bravo, Johnson Charles, and fellow Jamaican Rovman Powell.
The Jamaica Scorpions assistant coach spoke about the thrill of working with players of that calibre.
“It was a fantastic opportunity to work with some top-notch players. Each one has a different style, and it was my responsibility to understand their game and provide the support they needed.”
