Brinks a safe bet on Easter Monday
BRINKS ran an incredible race in defeat last time out. He was almost brought down at the clubhouse turn in December’s Chairman’s Plate, yet recovered from ninth at the half-mile to challenge MINIATURE MAN and LURE OF LUCY in the stretch run before the effort took toll.
Hunting a hat-trick of wins, BRINKS had to settle for third after his mishap, which certainly cost him the nine-furlong and 25-yard event. Returning among overnight-allowance company in Monday’s Easter Sprint Cup, BRINKS should use his class to floor rivals at five and a half furlongs.
Though contesting his first sprint in more than a year, BRINKS is classy enough to stalk any pace the likes of MADELYN’S SUNSHINE, FREEDOM STREET and EAGLE ONE might attempt in a bid to steal the Easter Cup from in front.
FREEDOM STREET ran a brave race last Saturday, fighting EAGLE ONE the entire trip in the King’s Plate before MONSTER MONSTER blew past in the seven-a-half furlong event. Though cutting back in the Easter Sprint, FREEDOM STREET will have speedy MADELYN’S SUNSHINE for company, trying to set-up EAGLE ONE.
However, even with MADELYN’S SUNSHINE help, EAGLE ONE appears over-burdened with topweight 126lb, allowing BRINKS 14lb. In addition, EAGLE ONE, at age six, has not been the force of last season when he alternated between open allowance and stakes as a dangerous run-on sprinter.
Ian Parsard has not asked BRINKS to do much at exercise. He really needn’t. BRINKS proved himself last season, second in the 2000 Guineas to BLUE VINYL, third in the St Leger and second in the Jamaica Derby to ATOMICA.
