St James policeman accidentally shoots himself

A St James policeman has been hospitalised after accidentally shooting himself on Tuesday.

The police report about 3:10 p.m., the district constable was at an establishment when, while handling his service weapon, a round was discharged, injuring one of his fingers.

He was taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Police sources say the officer’s condition is stable, and the injury is not considered life-threatening.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has been informed about the incident.

The Jamaica Police Federation, which represents rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, as well as the force’s welfare department have also been notified.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident.
