Christopher Bovell has died
Noted attorney and businessman Christopher Bovell has died.
He passed away today after falling ill while overseas.
Born on October 7, 1938, Bovell attended Munro College and later Cambridge University in the United States.
He practised as a solicitor in the Supreme Court (Jamaica) in 1964.
In 1979, he became a director of GraceKennedy and served in that position for 30 years.
He also served as the treasurer of the Jamaica Labour Party, from 1983-1989.
As a devoted member of the St Margaret’s Anglican Church, he served as secretary of the Incorporated Lay Body of the Anglican Church in Jamaica in the Province of the West Indies from 1983-1989.
He was also a former chairman of the Corporate Governance Committee of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ).
He was a partner in the law firm Dunn Cox, Orett and Ashenheim since 1965 and also served as a consultant in the firm’s Corporate and Commercial Department, as well as a notary public.
In August 1994, the Government of Jamaica conferred on him the Order of Distinction, Commander Class, for distinguished public service.
On March 11, 1965, he married Michelle Nanco and they had six children.
