St Catherine resident Jermaine Deer has been handed a two-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to stealing oranges from Trade Winds Citrus Limited, a juice manufacturer based in the parish.

Deer, a 32-year-old of Bog Walk, St Catherine, appeared in the Parish Court on Friday, where he answered to a charge of praedial larceny under the Agricultural Produce Act.

The presiding judge imposed a two-year suspended sentence and warned Deer to keep the peace, particularly over the next two years.

According to reports, in early October, security personnel on patrol at Trade Winds' orchard in Wakefield District caught Deer on the property.

Checks revealed that he was in possession of eight bags of oranges.

Deer was handed over to the Bog Walk police, where he was interviewed, arrested, and subsequently charged.

He made several court appearances before eventually pleading guilty to the offence.
