Disposing household garbage

THE EDITOR, Sir:
It's noted in Wednesday's Gleaner (January 2) that Government, through National Solid Waste Management Authority, will be ticketing householders who, since Tuesday, continue to use the single-use plastic bags in disposing of their garbage. Their recommendation is that householders use boxes and/or drums instead.
Householders will tell the Government that getting boxes and drums is not the easiest of things. One cannot walk into a retailer and beg/buy a box or easily purchase a drum. Therefore, while we source these disposal containers, please allow householders to systematically deplete any home stock of single-use plastic bags in the disposal of their garbage without a penalty.
