Damaged bridge unfixed despite numerous cries
THE EDITOR, Sir:
It's now going two months since the official closure of the road with the damaged bridge between Sweet River and Paradise, Westmoreland, main road from Kingston to Negril.
Repairs to the damaged bridge has not yet started, yet there are those suggesting that the National Works Agency (NWA) may as well allow usage of the road and bridge to smaller vehicles only, citing that the damage is only to one side.
How could conscious persons really expect such a decision from the NWA?
One thing is sure, and that is the numerous cries made so far to the relevant authorities have fallen on deaf ears.
Is it now time for the public passenger vehicles operators plying that route to act decisively? With the road being officially closed, most of these operators are without a route. And even though alternative routes have been suggested, those routes are either dangerous or unfeasible.
It's not inconceivable that the impact that this action would have on commercial and other activities in Savanna-la-Mar, Negril, and surrounding areas would be telling. And many of those who have not yet taken notice may just be led to do so, for a change.
