A St Catherine man who was the main suspect in the brutal killing of a fisherman on the Hellshire Beach was murdered in a mob attack on Sunday morning, the police have said.

Dead is Troy Sewell, otherwise called ‘Mello Man’, a 32-year-old fisherman of Hellshire in Portmore, St Catherine.

Reports are that passers-by stumbled upon Sewell’s charred, partially nude body in a burnt-out building near the beach. His body had what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head.

According to the Hellshire police, Sewell was being sought in the murder of Joseph Pitt, otherwise called ‘Fire’.

Pitt, 73, was reportedly at home on Saturday when he was attacked and stabbed repeatedly by Sewell, who also used a large stone to bash in his head.

Sewell was chased by eyewitnesses but managed to escape in nearby bushes.

Pitt succumbed to his injuries at the Spanish Town Hospital.

The beach was ordered closed during the Easter holidays because of the new coronavirus pandemic.
