Health authorities in Clarendon have isolated three patients overnight, who turned up with flu-like symptoms.
They have since been tested for the coronavirus and are awaiting the results.
One of the patients is reported to have interacted with the 79-year-old man from Corn Piece in the parish who died two days ago from complications with the COVID-19.
The other two patients have a recent travel history.
Corn Piece is now under a quarantine as the Health Ministry said the deceased man interacted with many people from several homes when he was "most infectious".
The deceased patient arrived in Jamaica from New York last week.
In the meantime, Clarendon health authorities are bracing for more potential cases of the coronavirus.
One source told The Gleaner that a 24-bed ward at the May Pen Hospital has been converted into an isolation area.
At the same time, public health personnel are continuing to carry out their investigations in Corn Piece.
Jamaica has so far recorded 16 cases of the coronavirus with one death.
Eleven of the 16 confirmed cases involve patients with a travel history.
The other five had some in contact with 'Patient 1', the first person confirmed with the virus who came to Jamaica from the United Kingdom in early March.
