Man undergoes surgery to remove bomb
A hospital was evacuated after a pensioner arrived with a World War I bomb stuck up his derrière. The 88-year-old man told stunned medics at a French hospital that the artillery shell was safe but nearby departments were cleared.
A bomb disposal team, as well as police and fire services, were also called out to the hospital.
It is understood that the senior citizen inserted the explosive device for sexual pleasure.
A member of staff at the hospital in Toulon described the astonishing incident as a first.
They said: "An apple, a mango, and even a can of shaving foam - we are used to finding objects inserted where they shouldn't be. But a shell? Never."
The elderly man had surgery to remove the bomb, with the hospital confirming that he was in "good health" but a little shell-shocked.
