In recognition of the distinguished career of Professor Hilary Beckles, vice-chancellor of The University of the West Indies (UWI), the Mona campus will be hosting the book launch of a festschrift celebrating his contributions to academia and social justice.

The book launch is scheduled for Thursday, February 15, at 6 p.m. at The Faculty of Medical Sciences Research and Teaching Complex.

The festschrift titled Interrogating Injustices: Essays in honour of Hilary Beckles, published by Ian Randle Publishers Ltd, is a compilation that recognises the legacy of the 8th Vice-Chancellor of UWI as an internationally acclaimed thought leader; a distinguished academic, a United Nations committee official, and global public activist in the field of social justice and minority empowerment.

Professor Densil A. Williams, pro vice-chancellor and principal of UWI Mona campus, remarked, “Sir Hilary Beckles is no ordinary man. He embodies the spirit of our Caribbeanness as a people with many complexities but deeply rooted and grounded in our reality of humanness. His steadfast advocacy for a better life for all is a devotion to which he was called, not merely a career advancing endeavour. The celebration of his work as a scholar, an administrator and an advocate is worthy of praise.”

The editorial team behind the festschrift consists of Professor Verene Shepherd, Dr Henderson Carter, and Dr Ahmed Reid.
